Unforeseen Sacred Places

Unforeseen Sacred Places

The Irish philosopher and poet John O’Donohue once wrote,

“At its heart, the journey of each life is a pilgrimage through unforeseen sacred places that enlarge and enrich the soul.”

As I write this, I am in the midst of a huge life change. I am leaving Geneva, the church I have served for the last 11+ years, and taking a call to serve as the Transitional Pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Palm Coast. As I reflect on my time at Geneva, I realize it has been one of those unforeseen sacred places along my journey. Through trials and travails, through friendships, tears, and laughter, my soul has indeed been enlarged and enriched.

As you reflect on your own life, I wonder what unforeseen sacred places you have traveled through. I wonder how these spaces and people have enlarged your soul. And then, I wonder what holy places and relationships await each of us next.

Let us pray: Gracious God, you are good. You are faithful. We thank you for this beautiful journey of life and for the people who have made it all the more wonderful along the way. Grant us the ability to walk into the future with awareness and reverence, trusting that you are with us. Through Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
