The Ripples Carry on Indefinitely
I remember a number of years ago, I went to a memorial service of a gentleman – who had given very generously to our church. He wasn’t a member and didn’t even attend. But his gift made a huge impact for us. I also knew that he had given very generously to a number of hospitals and charities in our community. He had grown up poor on the north side of Jacksonville and done well. He happened to be a man of deep faith. At the reception, I heard story after story from people whose lives had been touched through this man’s giving… He left behind a wake of beauty and good.
Of course, it is not just the wealthy. And, it’s not just people who are no longer with us. I never cease to be inspired by the generosity of everyday people. I never cease to be inspired by seeing how their love, their time, their good deeds, their words touch other people – way down the line.
The truth is – how we live here and now our lives affect other people. And the ripples carry on indefinitely.
In 1 Corinthians 13:8, the Apostle Paul reminds us that love never ends. The love that we share in this life carries on indefinitely.
Let us pray: Fountain of Life, Giver of all good gifts, thank you for loving us just as we are. And thank you for the people in our lives who have encouraged us in the faith, who have touched us and moved us and challenged us to grow. We are deeply grateful for all of your blessings. Empower us to share our blessings with a world desperately in need. In Christ’s name. Amen.
