Entrusted to You
I remember my friend Joey telling me about a sign that he saw in the woods of the North Carolina mountains. It read, “Stewardship Forest.” Now typically, when we think about stewardship, we think about money, right? At least in church circles. But the concept of stewardship is much greater than that. It is the careful management of something entrusted to your care.
I think about my friend Chad. He loves skateboarding. When he goes to the skate park, his first activity, before he ever begins to skate, is to walk around and pick up any trash that kids have left lying around. The skate park is a city park and it’s free. Chad knows it is a gift. It has been entrusted to us to use, and he wants to take good care of it. I think of Chad as being a good steward of that gift.
Reflect for just a moment on all the gifts that God has placed in your care. Yes money, but also the gift of creation, the gift time, the gift of faith, the gift of your talents, etc, etc. These gifts have been entrusted to you. And many more beyond them!
May you ever give thanks. And, may you steward these gifts in such a way that might bless others and reflect your gratitude. In the words of Genesis, you have been blessed to be a blessing!
Let us pray: When we reflect on all the gifts that you, O God, have placed in our care, we realize that our lives are full to overflowing. Hear our gratitude as we express it in words and in deeds. In Christ name we pray. Amen.
