And it Came to Pass
Vincent Van Gogh once wrote, “Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes, at last, an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must have hope.”
Sometimes we feel like our current reality is the only reality, and that our difficulties or pain will continue indefinitely. Sometimes it feels like tomorrow will just be a continuation of today. However, with God, there is always hope for a new start. Our situations can change for the better. Jesus reminded us, “With God, all things are possible for those who believe!”
Did you know that in the King James Version of the Bible, we read the words “And it came to pass…” more than 453 times? But never once does it say, “And it came to stay…!”
Let us pray: From generation to generation, you are faithful, O God. We pray today for perspective. Help us to see beyond the moment, beyond the day, beyond the illness, beyond the brokenness. Help us to trust that your hand is at work, even now, to heal, to redeem, to make whole again. May your Spirit blow through our lives again – bringing with it new life, new hope, and new opportunities to give; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
